I haven’t updated my blog in awhile because I didn’t know what direction I wanted to take it. I didn’t know how to categorize my writing, or even what to write about. I have finally come to the conclusion that the one consistent thing I can write about and enjoy is books. Since I love books so much, I’m going to write detailed book reviews and ratings according to my own standards, which i will explain in detail later. So here’s the scoop:
I will only review books that I have read completely, and have finished reading less than 3 months prior to my writing. While I may try to write for both genders, keep in mind that this is my pleasure reading, so I apologize in advance for reviewing Lipstick Jungle or something extremely female-oriented. If you completely differ with your feelings on a reading, please feel free to let me know. I’m not a one-sided listener/learner, and enjoy hearing different sides and points of view.
Here’s how the reviews will be formatted:
First I will list the title of the novel, any subtitles that may be relevant, the author, ISBN number, and all that other juicy information. I’ll also try to list the intended audience, even though I know it seems a bit juvenile. Mainly I’ll write a little something if I think the book has been stereotyped incorrectly or if people could benefit from a reading even though they’re not the intended audience. After all of this lovely information, I will summarize the book (without giving away important details), and post my thoughts and comments on the book. Likes and dislikes, grammatical errors (only because they really bug me), plot/character deficiencies, and character development will also be in this section. After my detailed review/summary, I will give the book a rating between 0 and 5. 0 will obviously be at the bottom of the barrel, and will have to be one of the worst books I’ve read, and 5 will obviously be top of the line, and I can honestly only think of one book I’ve ever read that would be deserving of a 5. I’ll probably support my rating in a couple of sentences just to defend my viewpoint, but feel free to comment your own thoughts and opinions!
If there’s anything you’d like me to comment about in my reviews, let me know. Look for the first review on Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert in the next few days.
